What is MOST analysis?

MOST analysis is a highly structured method of providing targets to team members at all levels of an organization. By working from top to bottom, you focus on the goals that matter most to your business.

The analysis can be applied to many areas of a company, from its most obvious applications in sales, marketing and business growth to internal processes and human resources.

Mission
Every organization is different and we can not make any assumptions about its mission without asking the right questions. Profitability, for example, is not explicitly the mission of a non-profit organization. Even with for-profit organizations, you can not assume that profit is a final goal.

A good mission is ambitious and essential to a wider commercial success. This could even be the complete reason for the existence of a business. Once it has been established, the rest of the MOST analysis can begin.

Missions should be reviewed when they are successful or have been found to be defective.

objectives
Each goal should be a condition contributing to the success of the mission. This means that a goal achieved will make the goal of the mission easier to achieve, but may not be essential to achieving your mission.

Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely, otherwise the objectives would become unclear and difficult to implement.

A good goal sets a clear goal to achieve within a tight deadline. Ideally, it will complement your other goals for successful success in MOST analysis.

Objectives should be reviewed if they do not prove useful to the mission.

strategies
Strategies are the open options for achieving goals. These can be quite complex, involving many tactics, and they can overlap to a certain extent. Strategies are a detail of implementation.

Strategies provide a way to quickly review and consolidate the tactics being implemented at the grassroots so that they make sense as methods to achieve your goals.

If the strategies do not accurately describe the tactics used, or do not work directly toward your goals, you should consider them.

Tactical
Tactics are the methods you will use to carry out your strategies. They should be simple and relatively unobtrusive processes that can easily be understood and carried out even by people who do not have a high level overview of MOST analysis.

Good tactics are small and effective, your strategies will quickly lead to goals.

If your tactics are inefficient and complex in practice or if there are unexpected obstacles to their successful implementation, they should be reviewed.

External strategic planning helps companies avoid pitfalls and moves the company forward with a sense of urgency and in a clear direction, with a consistent system of director at different levels of employees.
